SACRAMENTO, CA – Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo announced today that the final 2026-27 state budget includes over $2.75 million in local investments she secured for the Santa Clarita and San Fernando Valleys to, support public safety, emergency and wildfire prevention and response, housing, seniors, children, foster youth programs, and more.
“In a difficult budget year and when so many are struggling just to afford the basics, I fought to make sure our communities have the support they need,” said Assemblywoman Schiavo. “As a single mom, small business owner and former nurse advocate, I have seen firsthand how difficult times are for people. As a state it is our job to step up in these moments and deliver. While there is still more work to be done, these local investments will go a long way for so many families.”
The local community investments secured by Assemblywoman Schiavo include:
Public Safety - Over $1.1 Million
This includes specialized public safety vehicles for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department and electric bikes and equipment for the Los Angeles Police Department’s community patrol in the San Fernando Valley.
Foster Youth Resource Hub - $900,000
This funding will support Finally Family Homes in acquiring a permanent facility to serve as a centralized location for approximately 90 to 100 young adults each year, including those transitioning out of foster care into independent adulthood.
Meals on Wheels for Seniors - $180,000
Funding secured will help the Santa Clarita Senior Center expand their Meals on Wheels Program through additional vehicles able to reach more seniors who rely on these services.
Wildfire Preparedness and Animal Safety - Over $200,000
These resources will allow the LA County Department of Animal Control to purchase two horse trailers to expedite evacuations in an emergency as well as wildfire mitigation equipment for the local Tribal Conservation Corps.
Support for Youth & Families - Nearly $170,000
This funding will allow the Fernadeño Tataviam Band of Mission Indians to provide ADA-accessible transportation to seniors, youths and families to essential services, and support the Valley Korean American Parents Association in running the San Fernando Valley Youth Olympics.
Shade Structures Protecting Children & Museum Access - Over $240,000
To protect children from increasing heat, this funding will allow Meadows Elementary School to construct shade structures for elementary kids to stay safe from the sun, and to expand educational opportunities in the San Fernando Valley, the Museum of the San Fernando Valley will be able to use funds to upgrade building accessibility and improve outdoor educational programming.
“Every day I fight for support and solutions that make a real difference in people’s daily lives, and these investments do that,” said Assemblywoman Schiavo. “Whether it is making sure a senior receives a meal, helping a young person find stability after foster care, strengthening emergency response, or giving local law enforcement the tools they need to keep communities safe, this funding will directly support families across our district.”
